If you’ve been following our blog, we recently talked about the woes of running a small growing business. We decided that every now and then we’ll share our personal experiences and we hope you also enjoy these series. So, expect all things, hair, fashion, travel, lifestyle, personal experiences and what we like to call life advices. :) The ‘s’ is compulsory as it is very much tongue in cheek. The phrase stems from an anecdote involving a French know-it-all (male of course).
Let’s get to the bit about us, we are Andi and Mercedes, and we own Umona. We are cousins and are pretty much as close as they come. We started our business together in 2013 and it has been quite a journey and possibly the greatest experience of our lives so far.
We can tell you that we decided to start Umona because we are really passionate about hair etc., but that would be cliché and untrue. Umona was completely unplanned – we bought some hair for ourselves from a supplier and because we had such good reception, during a random conversation, we decided we could do it. However, we did not realise just how much hard work goes in to running a successful business. We procrastinated, we struggled but, in the end, we decided to persevere and today we’re still at it. Umona is our baby.
We love to travel and Umona has also taken us on some journeys and some unexpected ones too. We started our travels to Asia with China to source hair from a reliable supplier then decided we couldn’t limit ourselves to China, so we also went to the Philippines, Malaysia, Cambodia, Singapore and Thailand on this hair journey. We really wanted to get it right. We have become more passionate about hair in the last few years and we wanted more variety to add to our products; this year we introduced our synthetic wig line.
We would like to take you on this journey with us and share as much as we can with you. We hope you enjoy the randomness of it all.
